One of the most prized types of sushi in the world is the belly loin of the fatty blue fin tuna, known as toro. Our fresh bluefin tuna sashimi loins are very used to make the highest quality toro found in sushi bars, which melts in your mouth. We carry blue fin tuna year round, but sometimes it will be unavailable due to weather and supply conditions. If you plan of searing/cooking tuna, we suggest that you order yellow fin tuna instead of the blue fin tuna. Blue fin has a much higher fat content, which produces a strong fish taste and odor when cooked.
Blue fin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) are found all over the world, usually in deeper waters. They can get as long as 6 feet and weigh 300 pounds but the average weight is 60 to 100 pounds.
Our fresh and live seafood products are as fresh as you can get because we purchase directly from reputable fishermen in California and Baja California who take great pride in providing the highest quality seafood. The seafood is caught and immediately iced or brought to our live tanks until you order. We package it with care, keep it cold in insulated boxes and ship it overnight with FedEx so that it reaches your door fresher than the vast majority of most supermarkets and restaurants.
Currently, we only offer Pacific Bluefin Tuna. While overfishing of Mediterranean Bluefin has greatly threatened the species, Pacific Bluefin Stocks are well managed and are not at risk for overfishing. Please read this material on Pacific Bluefin to gain a better idea of why we have decided to continue to offer Bluefin Tuna:
