Description

VERY LIMITED SUPPLY - Our fresh farmed bluefin tuna sashimi loins are used to make the highest quality maguro in sushi bars. Farmed bluefin tuna are prized due to their high fat content, which makes the meat melt in your mouth. The farmed blue fin tuna is caught in nets, transported to open water pens and then fed for almost a year in tuna farms in Australia and Mexico. We carry blue fin tuna year round, but sometimes it will be unavailable due to weather and supply conditions. If you plan of searing/cooking tuna, we suggest that you order yellow fin tuna instead of the blue fin tuna. Blue fin has a much higher fat content, which may cause the cooked fish to have a stronger fish aroma and taste.

Blue fin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) are found all over the world, usually in deeper offshore waters. They can get as long as six feet and weigh as much as 300 pounds, but the average weight is 60 to 100 pounds.

Our fresh and live seafood products are as fresh as you can get because we purchase directly from reputable fishermen in California and Baja California who take great pride in providing the highest quality seafood. The seafood is caught and immediately iced or brought to our live tanks until you order. We package it with care, keep it cold in insulated boxes and ship it overnight with FedEx so that it reaches your door fresher than the vast majority of most supermarkets and restaurants.

Currently, we only offer Pacific Bluefin Tuna. While overfishing of Mediterranean Bluefin has greatly threatened the species, Pacific Bluefin Stocks are well managed and are not at risk for overfishing. Please read this material on Pacific Bluefin to gain a better idea of why we have decided to continue to offer Bluefin Tuna:

Never ordered this before, as we usually get the yellowfin blocks.

This tuna was great. flavor, texture and color were very high quality. We ate it sashimi style.

Hi Anon,

The white and Pink colored parts are of higher quality (Fat Content) than the dark red sections.  If you got a full piece of Pink and White Bluefin tuna at a maguro price consider yourself very lucky.

Is this blue fin tuna? June 2, 2011
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from FL United States
I just received three pound of tail section of tuna. and the meat color does not even look like Blue Fin Tuna.  The color of meat are white to pink instead of dark red.  Are you sure this is Blue fin TUNA?

Impressed? May 13, 2011
Reviewer: David E from San Jose, CA United States
YES, I was!

My initial inspection, it came well packed, it had  little to no smell, it had a nice rich deep red color. After trimming the skin off and rinsing it, I couldn't help it, I started cutting a few strips off and dipping them in a little soy sauce/wasabi. OMG! The flavor was as good, maybe even better than what my favorite sushi house serves! It was buttery smooth, with a nice crisp flavor.

This was first purchase from COP… but not my last!

Fatty Bluefin Tuna April 1, 2011

MORE PLEASE! I've finally found tuna comparable to the high end sushi bars. I've tried a few other items, including the various salmons, all excellent. I fear for my IRA.
