Absolutely marvelous! February 22, 2013

What can I say, this ikura is delicious. Well-preserved, its texture is perfect and the taste is lovely. Delicate and delectable.

I had doubts about mail-ordering frozen, but the package arrived even earlier than the estimate (I got email updates at every stage of delivery) and in fine shape.

Yes, the 1kg package is tricky to portion out, but as tasty as this is I'll be lucky if it lasts me a week — and then I'll be back for more! :D

Delicious! February 22, 2011
Reviewer: Barbara Sarasua from Virginia Beach, VA United States
Ikura has long been my favorite sushi and sashimi product at sushi restaurants, so I've tried it at many different places -- some good, some not so good.  I have to say that the ikura from Catalina is by far the best I've ever had!  It has that great salty, fishy taste unique to salmon roe, but it didn't have that pungent "bite" that it sometimes does at restaurants.  The freshness was out of this world!

That being said, the only negatives I'd say would be (1) it would be great if the 1 kilo size was packed into smaller packages.  Cutting some off to thaw out makes for quite a bit of slime and juice once it thaws out; and (2) I was a bit disappointed that when I got home (about 45 minutes after I got the email saying it had been delivered) at least 1/4th of the ikura had already defrosted, so I had to put more than I would've liked to in the fridge at one time.

Overall though, excellent product that I will DEFINITELY order again!

Sashimi Grade Salmon Eggs January 17, 2011

Excellent roe and service.  Added salt to my taste.  Refreezes well, but I found that I would have liked to order 3 kilos at a time because the taste and texture are so addictive......split a kilo between Thanksgiving and New Years and could not see any difference in the refrozen eggs.......so next time I will order enough!

"strong buy" December 18, 2010
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Freeland, MI United States
Excellent quality well packaged; tastes just like the sushi bar. Only problem I've had is that I eat a little at a time and then reseal in a vacuum bag. Trying to chip off a couple of ounces at a time damages some of the eggs and I have a little bit of salmon egg paste when it thaws. That's my problem, though. Catalina is great!

Very good value May 2, 2010
Reviewer: David Justice from Franklin, TN United States
The taste and texture are great, of course, but what really surprised me was how much I got with this order. I wasn't exactly sure how much volume was in one kilogram of ikura, but it came in a rectangular container that was (roughly) 8"x5"x2". I can't remember exactly what dimensions it was because as soon as it thawed I partitioned the whole order into several smaller containers and refroze them. It still tasted excellent after being refrozen, and it's lasted me for several weeks already.

Best ikura! April 12, 2010
Reviewer: Selurnis Micchi from Bethlehem, PA United States
I love ikura and I sample it at every Japanese restaurant I go to.  After a number of disappointing experiences I decided to try ordering it off the internet -tried a few places, too, before luckily stumbling across Catalina Offshore Products.  Now I don't even bother with the ikura in restaurants anymore or anywhere else.  Catalina's is- hands down- the best ikura I've had.

Wow June 3, 2009

In any sushi resturaunt I visit I order the Ikura first, it lets me know how good the rest of the meal will be.  I have to say this rivals any resturaunt I have visited.  Incredible texture and taste.  Fantastic.

Best Ikura May 16, 2008
Reviewer: Hiro from Duluth, GA United States
I am a IKURA freak but Catalina's IKURA is one of the BEST IKURA you can get.  Not many Authentic Japanese Restauarnts carry this quality either.

I've bought at least 5 KG in the past year or so.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED from an Authentic JAPANESE!

delicious ikura with traditional ingredients March 18, 2008
Reviewer: Keelia Fisk from Austin, TX United States
This is some of the best tasting ikura I have had.  Extremely fresh tasting even though it arrives frozen. Additional ingredients include sake, soy sauce and salt. These are traditional additives. This roe has a great flavor, not too salty. Delicious in sushi or as an appetizer.
My nine year old eats it with a spoon straight out of the fridge.
