This was my first time trying Uni, I can definitely say I will order it again. It was everything that Jeff told me it would be. I got great help from him in placing our order for a delicious valentines meal. Wonderful customer service!

Premium vs. Gold February 5, 2008

Just got the Gold Uni since COP ran out of the Premium.  Comparing the two, both are excellent fresh uni.  Taste wise and even consistency and texture, there isn't much of a difference.  For the value, I think the Premium is the way to go.  But really either way, COP delivers outstanding sushi/sashimi grade products.  

Customer service is outstanding with real live person you can contact instantly in regards to your order.  Delivery was on time and the packaging kept the product frozen throughout the entire delivery.  I'm looking forward to my next purchase.

Simply the best Uni around... January 7, 2008

My friends & I are obsessed w/ Uni. I highly recommend the Premium (if you are choosing between Premium or Gold). Subtle, sweet, creamy & delicious...even better than 95% of the Sushi Bars around. The Catalina Staff is also TOP NOTCH. Always friendly & helpful :-)

Some of the best uni available without the high prices of fine dining.  Stick with their premium uni, little difference between the gold and premium they sell unless you don't mind paying more.  Sushi restaurants I have dined at indicate they get their uni from Catalina OP.  The people are friendly and it a great place for fresh seafood and sushi supplies.

I regularly order both the Premium and Gold uni, the Gold for myself and the Premium for my dad. He prefers the Premium for it's "authentic uni taste".  In my opinion, the Premium is characterized by a more robust taste that leaves a mild but bitter aftertaste on the palate. In contrast, the Gold is a tad firmer, with a sweeter taste and no aftertaste. Although I prefer the Gold, I certainly can't complain about the Premium. To me, the Gold is like having coffee with cream and sugar (milder/sweeter), while the Premium is like having black coffee (stronger/more bitter). Depending on your taste buds, you can't go wrong either way.  Taking price into consideration, the Premium is a great value. Highly recommended!

Just as good as Premium - alomost 1/2 the Price February 28, 2007

This is my 2nd order w/ Catalina Offshore - this time I got this orange uni as well as the yellow premium. Taste difference is almost indistingushable.  Only obvious diffence is the color, but this one is very, very pretty & wonderful too. From now on I'll order this one since I can't tell the difference. Sooooooooo fresh & yummy. Best in the world!

I am originally from Japan and I love sea urchin. I was so surprized because of the quality of your products.
The sea urchin was really fresh and it reminded me of my hometown in Japan, Chigasaki... It was that fresh!!

I suggest getting the Premium over the Gold because there're barely any difference in flavor or texture.  Very delicious!  I didn't really like uni before, but it's because it wasn't fresh.  Big difference, now I love uni.
