Catalina Offshore Products Partners With Seafood for the
We are pleased to
announce Catalina Offshore Products’ Full Partner status with Seafood for the Future, the Aquarium of the Pacific’s
nonprofit seafood advisory program in Long Beach.
Catalina Offshore Products is among 11 restaurant and retail
businesses that have partnered with Seafood for the Future, whose mission is to
encourage healthy and responsible seafood choices. As a result, Catalina
Offshore Products is part of a network of businesses committed to sourcing better
seafood choices from responsible fisheries or farms.
As a primary supplier of West Coast fresh fish and
shellfish, we mainly feature species found along the California coast and the
Baja peninsula. Nearly 75 percent of the seafood we sell online, wholesale and
in our San Diego-based retail market is sustainable and much of it is sushi grade fish.
As our CEO Dave Rudie noted in a recent press release, we
appreciate that Seafood for the Future looks beyond generalizations in order to
provide well-researched seafood recommendations. “For example we seek out individual
sources that are doing things responsibly,” he said. “Where other seafood
advisory lists categorize certain species as do-not-eat, we know that in our
region those stocks are well-managed and incredibly robust.”
Our partner page on Seafood for the Future’s website
features a partial list of recommended seafood products. The list will be
updated as additional inventory is assessed. To maintain our partnership our
product offerings will be evaluated quarterly to ensure the most up-to-date
recommendations. Seafood for the Future also requires copies of our most recent
invoices at the time of evaluation to improve transparency and accountability.
We’re looking forward to a long partnership with Seafood for
the Future to ensure fresh, healthy and sustainable seafood choices!
